Students will discover the early history the moving image through hands-on exploration of a variety of Victorian optical toys for animation. Students will then be set a group design challenge to design and build a model prototype of a museum exhibit to demonstrate the workings of an early optical animation device.
This workshop provides an ideal introduction to the Museum and a real context in which to apply design considerations.
This session links with the online exhibition of Victorian optical toys from the Museum’s collection, Fancy Names and Fun Toys.
