Using our collections
The collections are available only by appointment. Researchers can identify and request objects, books and manuscripts using our online databases. Many of our objects and manuscripts are held offsite and the Museum requires significant advance notice to make these items available for study. The use of the library is restricted. Printed books may be consulted in conjunction with objects and manuscripts or where not otherwise available. Books available in other Oxford libraries should be consulted elsewhere.
Some of the collections of the History of Science Museum are currently being located at a storage facility outside Oxford. This is a temporary solution while a permanent collections’ research and teaching centre is developed for the University of Oxford’s gardens, libraries and museums.
Due to this, some of the Museum’s stored collections will be less accessible for research, loan and new image photography. If you are interested in a particular object or collection, please contact the Museum via firstname.lastname@example.org to check on availbility.
