The stories of the people who did science are as important to the history of science as the instruments they used, the inventions they created and the discoveries they made. The History of Science Museum has many pictures of scientists, engineers and inventors. They include some fine paintings of famous scientific figures, such as a contemporaneous painting of the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611–87). Our archives also contain many photographs and prints of scientists through history – some of them well-known figures, others less so.
